Zip Codes in Ventura, CA

Ventura is situated along the Californian coast, northwest of Los Angeles. Its western region is bisected by the Ventura River, while the rest of the city lies in a narrow valley flanked by steep slopes. To the north, the city is bordered by the rugged foothills of Ventura, while its eastern part sits on a flat alluvial coastal plain that runs along the western edge of the Oxnard Plain. Several Barrancas extend from the slopes to the Santa Clara River, which serves as the city's southern boundary. The Santa Clara River Valley begins at Saticoy, a historic settlement.

For at least 10,000 years, Ventura has been inhabited by the Chumash Native Indians and other groups. The city was named after Mission San Buenaventura, founded by Junpero Serra in 1782 following the arrival of Spanish missionaries. During the secularization of the Californian missions, Governor Pó Pico gave San Buenaventura to Don José de Arnaz as Rancho Ex-Mission San Buenaventura, which became a small settlement. San Buenaventura became a city in 1866 after the American Invasion of California. Ventura experienced significant development and expansion due to the oil boom of the 1920s and the post-World War II economic growth.
